The Story Behind "Paul is Dead" Hoax
As the story goes, Paul was driving down the street on November 9, 1966, at 5' o'clock in the morning. His eyes weren't on the road, they were on the lady walking past him as he drives. He did not see the stoplight change from green to red, he slammed into a car and his car started on fire. He didn't die instantly, but he eventually died of head wounds. So that The Beatles did not lose their popularity the winner of the Paul McCartney look-alike-contest, William Campbell, filled in for Paul. But one day a radio broadcast announced that Paul McCartney was dead. Everyone soon began to find clues all over, on album covers, in music, and all kinds of other places.
